March 2006

The Great Shakes are currently on hiatus as we try to dream it all up again. The EP "Friday Afternoon Happy Hour" (Live in the Lounge at woxy.com) will see the light of day in 2006. In the meantime, Derek is working on a “country, sweet and raw” record due for release in spring of 2006 (derekleebronston.com). Darren is working on a project called The Key Party. Described as sweet revolutionary songs and terroristic ballads, The Key Party is not a band as much as it is a party. Full-Length due in spring/summer 2006. More details to come including a website and pre-release material. Again, as we always said, thank-you and good night!

January 2006

2006 brings changes and strangers and well the usual shaking house called The Great Shakes. There will be shows, some new projects emerging and continued misguided perceptions of reality. Look forward to a live CD of their Lounge Act performance entitled FRIDAY AFTERNOON HAPPY HOUR - Live on The Lounge Act (WOXY.COM). Some of those songs are now available on myspace.com/thegreatshakes for preview. The Lounge Act, like Americas Peel Sessions, are both influential and interesting. Full length MP3's from the new EP Americana Bebop available here
After a year and a half, two drummers, one guitarist, a tour of LA, a notorious $12 bed-jumping video, a lot of shows and a few broken toes, The Great Shakes follow up their debut* with the AMERICANA BEBOP EP. Produced by Joe Blaney – who was part of the making of the pop clang of Combat Rock, – the groove of Prince’s Lovesexy – and the pulp garage of the latest from The Ravonettes – AMERICANA BEBOP is an assault on everything. It is political punk prostitution (Riot) that spits in the eye of god, pop and the freedom of consumption (Residence). It is a tireless rant denouncing the desires that fuel their haggard hotspot of a home (In the Ballroom). It is a disillusioned diatribe against the dilettante crisis in pop music (Oh No, Not Me) and the “lazy susan revolution” going on in living rooms across America (Americana Bebop). Well branded, hopelessly positive and thoroughly pretentious, The Great Shakes’ AMERICANA BEBOP comes neatly packaged with a wink, a nod and a gun. Tsk tsk.

*The Great Shakes’ first single, WANT/GOT, found its way onto commercial radio rotation and launched the independent, internet-distributed debut EP (The United Shakes of America) to several top 100 lists of 2003 including #79 on WOXY 97X/WOXY.COM – Named internet radio station of the year at the 2004 PLUG Awards.

September 2004
the great shakes are headed into the studio in october with producer Joe Blaney. He has worked with the clash, prince, soul asylum and even fabled n.y.c post-punk band, the bush tetras. we are quite happy about this upcoming recording.
contrary to popular belief darren hasn’t fled to costa rica to start a resistance movement, andy did not join the c.i.a. (culinary institute of america) and ken was not tried for illegally marrying our logo. it’s still legal in america to marry a cartoon. we think. however the great shakes have gone through changes. to the happiness of some and chagrin of others both stoley and our old drummer (who’s name you are not to mention) have gone their separate ways. in their place, an old friend (derek on guitar) and a fabulous new friend (gintas on drums) have joined the movement.
future shows are in the works for november as we return from a nice long rehabilitation. as are new photos and a new bio. cheers>
June 2004
